Accommodation in Teluk Dalam
Teluk Dalam is the second largest town on Nias and also the seat of the South Nias Government. It is only 20 minutes’ drive from Sorake but has a completely different atmosphere. This is a town where people live and work, rather than go for a holiday. There are a five hotels and a number of basic guesthouses in town, mainly catering for visiting business people and government officials. Just out of town there is a newly opened beach resort.
Teluk Dalam is a good place to base yourself if you are touring the nearby traditional villages. Tour groups and domestic tourists often choose to stay in Teluk Dalam rather than Sorake. People catching the ferry to Telo Islands also often spend the night here.
Staying in Teluk Dalam is also more convenient when it comes to services; there are many small restaurants, shops and a few banks in town.

One of the best hotels in the south located on the harbour waterfront, a few minutes from the towncenter. If you can, try to get one of the two rooms with balcony; nice sunrise and sunsets from here. This cosy hotel has all the fittings you would expect from a modern tourist hotel such as ensuite bathrooms with showers and bathtub, AC, TV. There are six rooms in total, and an upstairs and downstairs common area decorated with a mix of modern style and Nias artwork. Rp 450,000 per room. This is a great place for small groups to stay. The owner Mr Rendos Halawa has been involved in local tourism for a long time and can help with travel arrangements in the south.

Sem Hotel

This newly opened (September 2017) tourist hotel is located on the harbour waterfront between Howu-Howu and Summarend Hotels. It is the largest hotel in the South and prefect for tour groups. Rooms are large and equipped with modern amenities such as TV, AC and ensuite bathrooms. Some of the rooms facing the back have a great view of the bay. There are 16 rooms in total: 12 standard, 2 superior and 2 deluxe. There is a pool in the courtyard, billiards and a restaurant. Nias artwork and design details can be found in many places in the hotel. Prices range from Rp 390,000 to 520,000 per room.
Howu Howu Heritage Hotel

This hotel consists of a number of water villas built on stilts on the shore front just out of the town center. There is also a restaurant and a pool at the Hotel. During weekends it is very popular with local families who come here to eat or use the pool. There is a number of Nias traditional statues and artwork in the café-area. There are 8 rooms of varying standards, all with ensuite bathrooms, AC and TV. Room are Rp 300,000 – 500,000 depending on size and standard of room.

The only beach resort in Teluk Dalam is located in the next bay along, just two kilometres west of the town center. The location is very scenic; the bay is lined with beaches and coconut palms. The resort has a pool, playground, restaurant and bar. There are 8 rooms, 6 deluxe and 2 suites. Rooms are modern and have ensuite bathrooms, AC, TV and wifi. Salty Dog Hostel is the first international backpacker hostel on the island overlooking Baloho Bay. Dorms are equipped with free Wi-Fi, clean showers, air-conditioning, capsule style bunks fitted with lighting, fold down tables, charge points, and privacy screens. It also has a beachfront canteen: Warung Axel (WAX) that serves great cheap local food, snacks, cigarettes, drinks, and other basic food supplies – open 7 days a week. This hotel opened in 2017 and is located right in the middle of town along the main street. It is a good no-frills option for travelers passing through town. Look for Bank BNI, the entrance to the hotel is on the right side of the bank. There are 22 rooms ranging from VIP to standard. VIP rooms have AC, ensuite bath, TV and hot water. Standards rooms have fan and share baths. Prices range from Rp 180,000 to 400,000.
